Well as you know if you read the first blog one of the first cd's that I acquired from Cross Movement Records was the Softmore album from Da T.R.U.T.H. titled "The Faith"
I was completely blown away and did not know how to take the potent message mixed with the hard hitting beats...
(The review will detail the Message first then the music)
From Track 1 :"Welcome to the Faith" which invites unbelievers to take a deeper look at their own faith, get our views off ourselves, get back to helping each other, and fix our eyes on God. The track is rich with strings and a choir type Ahhhh! It also has a repetitive piano sequence and a nice bass line.
Track 2: "Our World" which gives unbelievers an invitation to step into the world of Christians. Since we are so readily invited to the world of money, drugs, sex, and violence we introduce them to ANOTHER side of life. This song begins with a repeating keyboard chord followed by the beat and later the jaws type bass, the strings, and the high pitched piano sprinkles. This song ends with an accapella hard hitting verse.
Track 3: Classroom intro
Track 4: "Incredible Christian" This song is an encouragement to Christians everywhere and gives a basic formula to start showing the world how incredible you are. The song begin with crazy strings, bass, beat, and an electric piano all from the first measure.
Track 5: "On Duty" This song continues with the formula of showing the world that we are Christians unashamed of the Gospel. On Duty speaks to us always being an example for a dying world. This was one of the TIGHTEST BEATS I had ever heard, secular or gospel! This song begins with the bass drum kick and a wha type voice in the background, and a distorted 70's type bass line accented with bongos.
Track 6: "Legacy" This song speaks to the Christian walk not being easy. It compares the views that we as American Christians have about Christianity to saints in biblical times and saints in other parts of the world and show how hard the walk is physically and mentally, but the most rewarding thing you can ever do. This song was not my most favorite when I first heard it because of the nusury type sound that is throughout the song; however, if you hear this song live and feel the passion that went into writing this song by just listening to the lyrics it is easy to fall in love with.
Track 7: "Go" This is a song about how we should not be ashamed of the Gospel and should witness every chance we can to pull souls from the burning fires of Hell. This song has an old skool beat, with a brasslike track, and a zoom bass sound, with an underlying organ that is going off!
Track 8: "Turn You Around" This is a testimony of how these two MC's have changed since Christ became part of their lives down to the talk, walk, actions, even thinking. This song is a repetitive basic beat song where the guy singing the hook really dosen't sound that enthusiastic but the message is good. It features Shabach.
Track 9: "Civilian" This song speaks to how we are only here for the purpose that God has ordained for us. This song also talks about how this generation has gone to passions for things and not God. This is a rock type song with Flame singing the hook. It has an overdrive guitar throughout the song. It's not my favorite but its still a good song.
Track 10: "Stand Chant" an intro for the next song
Track 11: "Stand" This song is for believers to man up and stand for what is right even when it is hard. This song has a deep south beat with a bounce feel and a hype beat. It has a lot of sounds like the razzle type bass, a lazer tag type sound, bongos, and steel drums. This song features Lecrae and Flame.
Track 12: "2 Is Better" This song talks about how Christians need each other and how we need to come together to pray about God's works and his agenda. This song is a very mellow song with a steady beat that has a fender rhodes type keyboard, an acoustic guitar, a string hit, strings, and a deep bass. This song features J.R.
Track 13: "Conversations (Interlude)" which is an interlude for the next song that features Keran and LaTia.
Track 14: "Conversations" This talks about how we as Christians should have a running dialogue with our Lord and how he wants and longs for us to communicate with him. It begins with the fender rhodes and mellow soothing vocals. This song has a nice beat with a deep bass line. This song also features Keran and LaTia.
Track 15: "Teacher?" This song asks the question about who is teaching you and who are you listening to. It talks how about how we take in everything we are exposed to. This is a very rich song with a nice beat. The song has a chinese sitar sound in the background with strings over the chorus and an acoustic bass.
Track 16: "The Portrait (Da Vinci Code Snapshots)" This is HANDS DOWN my favorite song. Even though it's less than 3 min. long it is very, very, potent. It challenges what we believe and what we have let become questions in our minds. It addresses most of what was introduced as uncertian in the "Da Vinci Code", and asks which Christ do you believe? And begs us to be certain before we die. The Song begins with a piano laced with chords, and enters the beat and a driving bass line with a clap.
Track 17: "Whose Team?" This song attacks those who are luke warm. It challenges those Christians who are straddling the fence and are living a double life being in church on Sunday and in the club on Saturday is cool. Well its not and Christ will spew out luke warm saints. Furtermore, these Christians are leading other away from Christ. This song has a deep saxaphone bass line, and an oboe, with a nice beat.
Bonus Track: at the end of track 17 is a bonus track. It doesn't have a title but what I call it is "What is This About" This song talks about how we as Christians can be blinded by the appearence of worldly success and begin to ask question about why do the secular folks get to have all the fun and the prosperity. The song goes on to say that our treasures are laid up in heaven. The song is a sampled sound with a tight beat added on top.
Hope this has been helpful and may God bless the Hip Hop Hike towards Da' T.R.U.T.H.
